The standard defines the method for measuring the vibration level constant placed in buildings by sources inside or outside the buildings themselves and the evaluation criteria of the disorder of the people inside the buildings themselves.
The standard change, substantially, the previous version by introducing an innovative approach and very different in how it assesses the interference from vibration.
The standard applies to all phenomena that can lead to vibration in buildings; for example: traffic on road and rail, industrial activities and operation of machinery, road activities and various types of construction, explosions and outbursts, human activities of any kind.
The rule does not apply:
- to vibrations caused by earthquakes and related events;
- the assessment of possible structural damage, architectural or cosmetics of the buildings, the examination of hygienic problems nor, finally, the evaluation of damage to machinery or sensitive instrumentation;
- to vibration at lower frequency of the low band edge of the third octave centered at 1 Hz.
As regards the existing situations or already authorized this standard, the limit values and the methods referred to in it do not apply to cases where the publication date of the legislation is after:
- the beginning of the activity of the source of the vibrations;
- the formal authorization for the construction (eg building permit, declaration of logins, etc.) Of vibration sources and artifacts involved in phenomena;
- the date of destination changes of use of buildings and works where the headquarters of the generation of vibrations.
Changes to existing situations through substantial changes to structures or to the vibration sources characteristics, as interest in the generation and propagation of vibration, if occurring after the date of publication of this standard within the scope of application.
