This standard defines the requirements for biodegradability and ecotoxicity that shall meet the polymers and plastics that are used to prepare products to be used mostly in agriculture that at the end of their use will be left on or in the soil and in this environment will be completely biodegraded without leaving toxic residues in the soil itself.
Typical examples of the items that could end life on land, are: plastic films for agricultural use, silage films, ropes and ties to plants and supports for pheromones and in other fields, funeral items ( urns or bags) and hobby items . This standard is not intended to define the ecotoxicity and biodegradation of biodegradable plastics and soluble or dispersible in the aqueous phase, and compostable plastics, both at high temperatures (industrial composting ) or at room temperature (home composting).
