This standard specifies the lighting performances of lighting systems according to their relevance and dealing to the safety of road users, and specifically:
- it provides the procedure to classify an external area which is intended to be subject to any traffic, in order to determine the relevant lighting class;
- it provides the procedure for selecting the lighting classes of the classified area;
- it identifies aspects which are influencing street lighting, and by performing a risk assessment, it allows the achievement of energy savings and the reduction of the environmental impact;
- it provides requirements on calculation grids relevant to UNI EN 13201-3 algorithms and to for on-site measurements according to UNI EN 13201-4.
This standard describes and prescribes a design procedure that allows the achievement of the appropriate lighting category/ies, starting from data associated with the type of the road and which they are the input values for the procedure.
This design procedure is based on a subtractive process which allows to set up both the Design lighting category and the Operational lighting category, as a result of a risk assessment carried out by the designer which evaluates the influencing parameters.
This standard defines the functionalities and the classification of the systems able to activate adaptive lighting conditions, also establishing typical requirements and operating modes.
